A low pressure area is expected to develop and deepen rapidly through Thursday as it sweeps across the North of England. Gust potential 45mph+ across the forecast area through Thursday,with the stronger gusts likely between Midday and 16:00. Some gusts in excess of 50mph are possible. Strongest gusts could bring trees down where these are exposed to the wind.

Very Mild, Breezy Start - Band of Rain Morning - Very Strong Winds Late Morning/Afternoon

 

THURSDAY 23RD FEBRUARY UPDATE @ 06:30:-

A breezy, mild start across the forecast area. Perhaps some further showery rain for a time at first through the morning and a band of more persistent through the morning, before clearing away East . Further showery rain likely through the rest of the day, although perhaps some brighter spells as well through the afternoon. Temperatures at their highest through the first part of the morning, peaking at 10°C or 11°, before falling away steadily through the remainder of the day to around 5°C by 17hr.

WIND: * POTENTIAL DISRUPTIVE GUSTS THROUGH THURSDAY *

A breezy start, and the wind increases through the morning with gust potential 35mph+, but this increases further late morning into the afternoon with gust potential 45mph+ across the forecast area. The current indications are that the strongest gusts can be expected between midday and 16hr. Some gusts in excess of 50mph in exposed areas are likely. Although the strongest gusts over a relatively short timeframe, they are likely to be cause damage in places and some trees possibly being uprooted. Initially from the SW, veering WNW through the day. It will feel rather cold through the afternoon

 

EVENING & OVERNIGHT:

A few showers across the forecast area through the evening, generally few and far between, and any that do affect you will 'rattle' through. Some clear spells through the period, allowing temperatures to fall to 3°C or 4°C.

WIND:

After the very windy day, where gusts in excess of 50mph have been recorded, and over 70mph in Wittering, it will remain breezy, but decreasing through the period and still with gusts 20mph + in places. Generally from the WNW

OUTLOOK FOR FRIDAY

A cooler, clearer start than of late across the forecast area. Bright/sunny spells through the day, with a risk of an isolated shower in places. Perhaps more in the way of cloud across the area later through the afternoon. Temperatures peaking at 7°C or 8°C

WIND:

A much less breezier day than the extremes of Thursday, with gust potential 15mph to 20mph across the forecast area, and generally from the WNW
